Favorite Garden Doodads: Moisture Meter

June 27, 2018 by Cathi Leave a Comment

I’m a sucker for a garden doodad. Someday I want to have a cute garden shed where all of my garden doodads are beautifully displayed. (Although I can’t have a structure in my back yard per the HOA. DARN HOA)

ANYWAY

A couple of years ago I bought a moisture/ph/sunlight meter. One of those things I saw in a garden store and thought, “How cool!”. I brought it home, then didn’t do a darn thing with it until recently.

Y’all. This is really the coolest thing. I have been guilty in the past of overwatering. It’s pretty common with beginning gardeners, I think. I’ve started using this meter every weekend. I go around from bed to bed and stick this in the soil and let it tell me how dry or moist the soil is. Then, I only water the beds that need it so I’m not wasting water AND I’m creating an optimal situation for the plants.

Here is one almost identical to the one I have: Jellas Soil pH Meter, 3-in-1 Moisture Sensor Meter/Light/pH Soil Test Kits Test Plant Moisture Meter for Garden, Farm, Lawn, Indoor & Outdoor Use (Green)

It amazes me that something so inexpensive can be so handy and work so well. Consider picking one up for yourself!

Meet Cathi

After managing my strange hobbies for years living in the suburbs in an HOA, we finally bought 13.25 acres in rural Collin County, Texas.

We dubbed our piece of Texas "Nonsense Farm"
